India will try to continue with their recent dominance over Australia in bilateral series when the two teams face in the 3rd ODI of the five-match series in Ranchi.
The hosts lead the series 2-0 after wins in Vizag and Nagpur and a win here will give them an unassailable 3-0 lead and a third successive series win over the Aussies in the 50-over format. Something that no Indian team has ever experienced.
The series is still alive and the only change that India could make in the third match is to rest maybe a Mohammed Shami or a Jasprit Bumrah and include Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who returns to the squad after being rested for the first two ODIs.
A return but in terms of form for Shikhar Dhawan is also the need of the hour for Team India. The left-handed opener has managed a mere 376 runs in 15 innings at an average of 26.85 since the Asia Cup.
The spotlight will also be on Ambati Rayudu, who has been blowing hot and cold for quite some time now and Ranchi provides him with another chance to prove that he is the guy for the No. 4 spot. After Vijay Shankar's all-round show in Nagpur, the Hyderabad batsman would be under some pressure for sure.
Who else is in the spotlight? MS Dhoni of course. The former Indian captain was smashing the net bowlers during training on the eve of the match. Fans who would rush into the JSCA stadium on Friday would hope their favourite son shows the same magic when the Australian bowlers are in front of him.
