Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films & Vetrimaran’s Grassroot Film Company and Fox Star Studios Kaaka Muttai , which released today (June 5), is turning out to be a hit. The film has which released in 109 screens in Tamil Nadu have reported 85 to 100% occupancy for Noon and Matinee shows.
There is an undeniable charm about Kaaka Muttai which is being raved by the critics. The film which was in the news for winning the National Film Award for Best Children's Film, and Best child artists award for its lead actors Vignesh and Ramesh is not only getting excellent reviews, but now the biggest surprise is that the film has taken a very good opening
Normally an award film does not take an opening. Kaaka Muttai is about the travails of two kids and has no star presence, but could get 615 audiences at the big screen at Chrompet Vetri, for the noon show. Similarly at Pudhuchery Raja, it sold 900 tickets for the noon show.
The audience response at high end Chennai multiplexes and single screens in Salem or Madurai is the same with almost 95 percent occupancy. More screens are likely to be added from Saturday (June 6).
Debutant director Manikandan’s script and presentation and the performances of its lead actors Vignesh and Ramesh has caught the imagination of the audiences. Dhanush and Vetrimaran have a winner in their hands. Kaaka Muttai grips you from the word 'go', making it something of a small triumph in a year peppered with nonsense and big budget disappointments.
Trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai said. “The opening that Kaaka Muttai has taken proves that the audience is ready for good cinema. It proves that content is the king... It is the story and script that matters"
